Pilot Metropolitan Pen
I am slightly belated towards the party on the Pilot Metropolitan, however with good reason. I was waiting for the design ahead in - Black simple Body - and wasn't gonna settle for silver or gold or some funky structure regarding the barrel. I'm certain!
When I finally did obtain it we rapidly comprehended what most of the hype had been about. We noticed two things straight away: the extra weight for the barrel therefore the smoothness of this nib. The barrel is made of metal that will be anything you never see much with pencils in this budget. It gives the Metropolitan an excellent heft and impression that you're using an infinitely more costly pen.
The nib, for me, may be the genuine standout. Medium nibs are outside of my typical rut but that does not prevent me from understanding quality when I use it. This nib can be as good of a steel nib as you will discover, irrespective of price. It is glassy smooth with almost no feedback regarding page. I loaded my Metropolitan with Aurora Ebony ink and used a Rhodia 80g DotPad because of this analysis - the ultimate smoothness combo!
Even though the praise the Pilot Metropolitan is warranted, it isn't without flaws. The greatest one in my situation is the sharp metal side on step-down from the barrel towards the hold part. It hits both my thumb and forefinger when composing, which makes it uncomfortable right from gate. You can see quite plainly in this picture from JetPens the thing I in the morning dealing with.
The 2nd problem I have isn't just as much of a flaw as it's a personal inclination: Medium nibs will be the sole option. Yes, i realize as possible swap nibs from other Pilot pencils in to the Metropolitan, but that defeats the purpose of a $15 basic level pen in my experience. Since great as method nib is i cannot utilize it throughout the day, each and every day. I'd choose the chosen a supplementary good or a stub nib.
Therefore now the question many of you tend to be wondering about: could be the Pilot Metropolitan the greatest entry level water fountain pen available on the market? No, i am keeping the Lamy Safari for the broader range of nib and barrel choices. The Pilot Metropolitan has reached the very least when you look at the conversation though, which can be more than many under $30 water fountain pencils can claim.
